PLOT
- Adapted from Patrick Senecal's 1994 debut novel of the same name, the book that launched Quebec's most prolific horror author. Senecal co-wrote the screenplay with director Eric Tessier, so the film answers more directly to its source than a hired hand's interpretation would.
- Normand D'Amour plays Beaulieu not as a snarling killer but as a calm, devout family man who frames his murders as holy housekeeping, ridding the world of dealers, pedophiles and the wicked. The performance is what most reviewers single out as the film's spine, and it earned D'Amour a Jutra Award nomination for best supporting actor.
- The film won the Audience Award at France's Gerardmer Fantastic Film Festival in 2010, the genre showcase founded in 1994 as the successor to the legendary Avoriaz festival, putting a Quebec chess-and-torture chamber piece over with a crowd that lives on horror.
- Far from a one-off industry footnote, the film racked up three Jutra Award nominations and four Genie Award nominations in 2010, the Genie nods landing in sound, sound editing, original score and makeup, a haul that recognized its tense craft and grisly practical work.
- Shot at Melrose Studios in Saint-Hubert, Quebec, in French as '5150, rue des Ormes,' on HDCAM with cinematographer Francois Dutil. The single-house setting is largely a built interior, not a found location.
- The film made its East Coast premiere at the Brooklyn Film Festival in 2010, part of how this Francophone genre piece crossed over to English-speaking horror circles.
