PLOT
- Dick Maas was offered A Nightmare on Elm Street 4: The Dream Master but turned it down to make Amsterdamned; the gig went to Renny Harlin, and Maas later said he should have postponed his own film and taken the Hollywood door.
- The famous speedboat chase wasn't all Amsterdam. The shots where the boats leap onto the quay and plow through a cafe terrace were filmed in Utrecht's Oudegracht, whose low, street-level quays the boats could vault onto, geometry Amsterdam's high canal walls couldn't provide.
- Wreckage from one of the boats wrecked for the production ended up at the bottom of the Oostvoornse Meer near the Europoort, where the 'Amsterdamned' parts are a listed feature of the Slag Baardmannetje scuba dive site, so divers can swim down to debris from the film about a diving killer.
- Star Huub Stapel was sidelined for about three weeks after the speedboat he was riding crashed during filming; Dickey Beer handled the speedboat chase and other stunts, and Vic Armstrong worked on the picture as a stuntman.
- Maas didn't just direct and write it, he composed the score himself, and produced the picture with Laurens Geels through their company First Floor Features on a budget of about 4.2 million Dutch guilders.
- It was a major box-office hit at home, topping the Dutch charts, and became a lasting cult title abroad on home video, fusing Jaws-style aquatic suspense with 1980s slasher tropes; Maas and Stapel finally reunited for a single sequel, Amsterdamned II, released in late 2025, 37 years later.
