Swap magistrates for the men who own this crime, swap the courtroom petition for emails from the salt storehouse, and the procedural is just the legend wearing a badge. So-young is the Yi Sang-sa figure, the one official willing to actually hear the dead girl out instead of dying scared.

The forensic framing isn't decoration, it's the point. By insisting on autopsies and evidence, the movie argues that the ghost is really an unsolved case refusing to close. The corpse that died before the fire is the thesis in miniature: the official record is a lie, and the haunting is the truth forcing its way back into the file.

So-young's nightmares position her as a half-willing medium rather than a bystander. The dreams escalate as she gets closer to the buried truth, suggesting the spirit isn't haunting her to kill her but choosing her, picking the one investigator whose own damaged past makes her receptive to a wronged woman's story.

A burned body turns up in the wreckage of a house fire, but the autopsy says the man was already dead when the flames started. That contradiction drops on veteran detective So-young and her green partner Hyun-ki, and it drags them back ten years to a girl who died and was never accounted for. Each victim got an email from "Min-jeong's Salt Storehouse" before he died. So-young's dreams fill with a long-haired figure who won't quit. The case isn't a whodunit.
