Deacon, a hardened debunker nursing a shameful past, teams with Gray, a jittery tech specialist who wires the crumbling building with cameras, and Father Mark Amidon, a by-the-book priest sent to keep the investigation honest. What starts as routine evidence-gathering curdles fast. The church sits atop something ancient that predates Christianity and has no interest in being exorcised. As the trio dig into local history and the congregation's strange behavior, Gray and Deacon descend into a subterranean labyrinth beneath the building and find evidence of child sacrifice — proof the former minister had converted to worshipping whatever lives down there. The final act abandons comfort entirely: chasing the sound of Mark's voice through a narrowing passage, the two men realize too late that the tunnel itself is alive, and they've crawled straight into its digestive tract as its walls begin to dissolve them. It remains one of the most punishing found-footage climaxes Britain has produced.
