• Byrkit shot the whole thing over five nights in his own Santa Monica home on a $50,000 budget. It clawed back $139,745 at the box office.
• There was no real screenplay. Byrkit spent about a year on a 12-page treatment, then handed each actor a private page of notes every night, never telling them what the others received. The actors were so in the dark they didn't even know how the film ended until they saw the first cut.
• The eight principals were cast for improv chops and mostly didn't know each other beforehand. Byrkit told them to go anywhere in the house and shot it documentary-style, leaning on heavy improvisation with no traditional blocking.
• Nicholas Brendon, Xander from Buffy, plays Mike, who brags about being a regular on Roswell, a show Brendon was actually never on. In the scenes where two Mikes share the frame, the second one is played by Brendon's real-life identical twin, Kelly Donovan.
• Before directing, Byrkit was Gore Verbinski's conceptual consultant on the Pirates of the Caribbean films, drawing more than 3,000 storyboards. He also got a story credit on Rango and shared the Annie Award for Writing in a Feature Production for it.
• The film carries an 89% on Rotten Tomatoes and a 65 on Metacritic, and took Best Screenplay at both Fantastic Fest and Sitges in 2013, for a script that technically never existed on paper.

The glow-stick numbering is a lie the group tells itself. Once the houses start bleeding into each other, there's no stable 'original' set of eight, only an endless branching of near-copies. The marking ritual gives them the comfort of thinking identity is fixed when the comet has already proven it isn't, which is why the system collapses the moment Hugh's box of photos shows up.

Emily is the real monster of the piece, not the comet. Her arc, the dancer who quit, the role she lost, the boyfriend she suspects, reads as a woman convinced a better version of her life exists in the next room. Her final act of stalking a happier Emily and trying to take that life isn't panic. It's the ambition the whole film has been quietly building toward.

The cracked phone screens and the matching numbers scrawled on hands work as a closed-loop trap: there's no version of this night where the group simply waits it out. The comet didn't create the danger, it just removed the walls between people who were already willing to erase each other to come out ahead.

Eight friends gather for a dinner party the night a comet passes overhead. The power dies, phones crack, and a single house down the block stays lit. When two of them walk over to investigate, they find the same dinner party, the same people, staring back. As the group tries to mark which version of themselves is real with glow sticks and ping-pong balls, paranoia curdles into something colder. The comet has split reality into a lattice of near-identical houses, and by sunrise only one Emily intends to walk away clean.
