• It was the directorial debut of Sophon Sakdaphisit, who had already co-written two of Thailand's biggest horror exports, Shutter (2004) and Alone (2007) - Coming Soon was his move from page to chair.
• It was produced by GMM Tai Hub (GTH) with Joy Luck Club Film House, and produced by Yongyooth Thongkonthun, the director of Thailand's smash 2000 comedy The Iron Ladies and a key figure at the studio that drove the country's late-2000s horror boom.
• GTH dropped it in Thailand on October 30, 2008 - a deliberate Halloween-eve release - and it opened as a domestic hit before going on to a worldwide gross of roughly $3.9 million.
• Lead actress Vorakan Rojchanawat, who plays Som, was pop singer 'Punch' making her first screen appearance; her co-lead Chantavit Dhanasevi (Shane) went on to write and act across later GTH hits including the horror anthologies Phobia/4bia (2008) and Phobia 2 (2009) and the blockbuster Pee Mak (2013).
• The premise weaponizes the audience itself: it's a horror movie about film piracy, where the cursed ghost reaches out of a bootlegged copy to kill whoever watched the stolen footage - a pointed jab at Thailand's then-rampant movie-piracy trade.
• Sakdaphisit parlayed the debut into a directing career at the same studio, going on to make Laddaland (2011), The Swimmers (2014) and The Promise (2017) under GTH/GDH 559.

The whole film is an anti-piracy curse made literal. Chaba doesn't haunt a place or a bloodline - she haunts a copy. Every duplication spreads her, so the bootleg Shane makes is the contagion vector, and the real monster is the act of stealing the image. The dead actress trapped inside the footage is the worker the film industry chewed up, taking her revenge on the people consuming her stolen labor.

The nested structure means there's no safe outside the frame. Evil Spirit's actress died for real during the hanging stunt, so what plays on screen is partly genuine death footage - which collapses the wall between 'the movie Chaba' and 'the real ghost.' By the final reel the cinema audience inside the story and the audience watching Coming Soon occupy the same trap: watching is the crime that gets you collected.

The blinding motif is the thesis. Chaba steals children's eyes; the victims get their eyes gouged; the bootleg is filmed by a camera's single eye in the dark. The film keeps insisting that to see this story - to look at the stolen image - is to be marked, so sight itself becomes the thing the curse takes from you last.

Shane, a broke movie-theater projectionist, agrees to camrip a hyped new Thai shocker called Evil Spirit so he can sell bootlegs. The film tells of Chaba, a village woman who abducted children and blinded them to keep them from escaping, and was hanged by the villagers for it. Then the bootleg starts bleeding into reality: Shane's missing co-worker turns up inside the footage with his eyes gouged out, and Chaba climbs off the screen to collect everyone who watched her. Shane and his girlfriend Som race to dig up the decades-old case behind the movie before the dead actress trapped in it drags them in too.
