• Spouses Vanessa and Joseph Winter co-wrote, co-directed, produced, and edited the film as their feature debut; Joseph also stars as Shawn Ruddy and composed the score, while Melanie Stone plays both Chrissy and the ghost Mildred Pratt.

The safety tether is the whole thesis. Shawn clips into a harness so he can't actually flee, then spends the night fighting his own lifeline. Read it straight: the film argues the creator can't leave the haunted house because the haunted house is the content. The monster isn't keeping him there. The monetized livestream is. The tether is the contract with the audience made physical.

Mildred and Shawn are the same hunger in two bodies. She was a creator too. A woman who needed an audience for her bad poetry, destroyed when the crowd laughed, now a vengeful ghost demanding viewers in death. Shawn is what she was before the rope. The house doesn't punish him for trespassing. It recognizes him, and the climax is less exorcism than succession.

Chrissy the superfan is the trap the platform builds, not a twist bolted on. The arrival of a too-eager 'follower' who knows everything about him dramatizes the parasocial bargain the rest of the film monetizes. The donations that egg Shawn deeper and the fan who walks through the door are the same force wearing two masks: an audience that will love you right up until it consumes you.

Shawn Ruddy is a canceled YouTube daredevil clawing back relevance the only way the algorithm rewards: by locking himself, alone and broadcasting live, inside Death Manor, a derelict house in the Utah woods where a bad-poet recluse named Mildred Pratt hanged herself. He yanks his own car battery, rigs a safety tether, and plays scared for the chat. Then the house stops cooperating with the bit. A "fan" shows up. Mildred wants her audience back. The donations keep climbing while Shawn keeps running, and the night turns his comeback stunt into a body count narrated by his own viewer counter.
