• Made on roughly US$2.8 million, it grossed US$4,443,849 worldwide and ran 98 minutes, opening in South Korea on August 1, 2007 after premiering at the Puchon (PiFan) fantastic film festival in July.
• It was the feature debut of co-directors Jung Sik and Jung Bum-shik, who are actual brothers - not the unrelated 'creative duo' some Western writeups assume - and who wrote as well as directed it.
• It cleaned up on the craft side at the 28th Blue Dragon Film Awards, winning Best Cinematography for Yoon Nam-joo and Best Art Direction for Lee Min-bok and Kim Yu-jeong, with a Best New Director nomination for the directors and a Technical Award (editing) nod for cutters Kim Sang-bum and Kim Jae-bum.
• It also pulled Best New Director wins for the Jung brothers at both the 2007 Director's Cut Awards and the Korean Association of Film Critics Awards - rare hardware for a horror debut in Korea.
• Jung Bum-shik turned the period-ghost mode inside out for his next horror feature, the 2018 found-footage hit Gonjiam: Haunted Asylum, which became the highest-grossing Korean horror release since A Tale of Two Sisters (2003).
• The whole thing is set in 1942 with Korea under Japanese colonial rule, framed by an aged doctor revisiting the period in 1979 - the colonial backdrop is baked into the plot, including a string of killings that target the occupying Japanese soldiers.

The morgue romance isn't necrophilia played for shock - it's grief refusing the math. Jeong-nam never met his fiancee alive, so the corpse becomes the only version of her he can love without rejection. The film keeps the dead beautiful and the living anxious because, to him, death is the safer relationship. The horror is that he's right.

Asako's segment reads less as a haunting than as a child decoding adult violence she's too young to name. The ghost-parents bleeding through the walls and the killings stalking the staff are the same event seen twice - trauma she can perceive but not articulate, so it arrives as apparition instead of memory.

The 1942 setting does quiet work that the scares distract from: a Korean hospital staffed under Japanese rule is already a place where Korean bodies are processed by an occupying system. Every story is about a corpse someone can't let go of - which doubles as a country grieving itself while the occupiers run the morgue.

An old doctor opens a 1942 photo album and the dead start walking back in. At Ansaeng Hospital under Japanese occupation, three rotted love stories braid together: a morgue intern who falls for the corpse of the bride he never met, a surgeon hauling guilt and a wife who shouldn't have survived the crash, and a mute orphan, Asako, watching her parents bleed through the walls while a killer ambushes the occupying Japanese soldiers. Snow, formaldehyde, and unfinished grief. Nobody here is haunted by strangers. They're haunted by the people they failed.
