Home Movie

• Home Movie was the writing and directing debut of actor Christopher Denham, better known on screen for supporting turns in Shutter Island, Argo, and the Sundance cult favorite Sound of My Voice.
• The murderous twins, Jack and Emily Poe, are played by real-life brother and sister Austin Williams and Amber Joy Williams, which is part of why their wordless coordination on camera reads as authentically unsettling.
• It premiered at Montreal's Fantasia International Film Festival in July 2008, where the strong reception led IFC Films to pick up U.S. video-on-demand and DVD rights, with Anchor Bay Entertainment taking the Canadian DVD.
• The whole thing runs a lean 76 minutes, built entirely as compiled family camcorder footage rather than a conventional narrative.
• Adrian Pasdar (David, the pastor) was simultaneously a TV face from Heroes, and his co-star Cady McClain (Clare) came out of daytime soaps, an odd casting pairing for a no-budget found-footage horror.

The camera is the real antagonist. Every escalation gets documented because David insists on filming family life as proof of God's plan, and that compulsion to record is exactly what keeps both parents from acting. The lens turns warning signs into 'footage' to review later instead of emergencies to stop now, which is how a frog nailed to a board becomes a keepsake instead of an intervention.

The film refuses the comfort of a cause. Clare the psychologist hunts for trauma, David the pastor hunts for demons, and the movie lets both fail on purpose. The twins are presented as simply, natively wrong, and the horror is the parents discovering that neither science nor faith has a tool for a child who was never broken to begin with.

The twins were never two kids, they were one unit the parents kept mistaking for two. They move, decide, and turn on the adults in lockstep, and the late reveal that the household has been outnumbered the whole time reframes every earlier scene: the parents thought they were raising children when they were really being studied by them.

A pastor and a child psychologist haul their ten-year-old twins out to a frozen lake house in upstate New York and start filming everything, the way proud parents do. The camera keeps rolling as the kids stop performing childhood altogether: a nailed-shut frog, a cat in a bag, blank stares where a smile should go. David prays harder, Clare diagnoses, and the family camcorder quietly turns into a confession nobody meant to record. By the time the parents agree something is wrong, the twins have already decided who the problem really is.
