The faceless-camera stretch isn't just a gimmick — it's the whole thesis. By denying us faces exactly when Julia can't see, the film argues that the real horror is how easily a person can move through the world unwitnessed. The killer's power is social, not supernatural: he's a monster made of everyone's inattention, and the bandages just force the audience to share the blind spot we all already have.

Read the disease as the actual antagonist and the killer as its agent. Both sisters are being erased by the same condition — vision narrowing, then gone — and the man who circles them is drawn specifically to women on the edge of disappearing. The murder plot becomes a literalization of degenerative decline: the thing hunting Julia is the same thing rotting her eyes, the fear of vanishing while still alive.

The twin framing invites a doubling read where Julia is investigating her own future. Sara is who Julia becomes — blind, isolated, dead in a basement — and the investigation is really Julia refusing to accept the ending already written for her. Every clue she chases is a version of herself she's trying to outrun, which is why the film keeps collapsing the two women into one body.

Julia is going blind from the same degenerative disease that already took her twin sister Sara's sight — and when she finds Sara hanged in the basement, the official suicide ruling doesn't sit right. Pushing past her own failing vision and a husband who wants her to stop, she retraces Sara's last days and keeps colliding with a man nobody can quite describe, a presence so unremarkable he's functionally invisible. The deeper she looks, the darker the screen gets, until the operation meant to save her eyes leaves her bandaged and blind in a house she can no longer trust.
