• Grew out of the Mo Brothers' 2007 short Dara, a 22-minute piece made for roughly 220 million Indonesian rupiah that premiered at Screamfest in Los Angeles on October 19, 2007 and later anchored the 2008 omnibus Takut: Faces of Fear before the duo expanded it into this feature.
• Became the first Indonesian film ever banned in Malaysia, pulled over its extreme violence, gore, and cannibalism.
• Shareefa Daanish won Best Actress at the 2009 Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival (PiFan) for playing Dara, carrying the role over from the original short.
• Julie Estelle initially turned down the part of Ladya and only signed on after reading the script, then gained about 4 kilograms and ran a fitness regime to handle the action-heroine demands.

Dara's family isn't supernatural so much as a closed economy of belief: the immortality ritual works because the clan acts as if it does. The film never shows Dara aging or healing in any clearly impossible way, leaving room to read her 'centuries' of survival as the inherited delusion of a cannibal dynasty that keeps killing because stopping would mean admitting the bargain was always a lie.

Astrid's pregnancy is the structural key, not a twist for shock. The whole house is organized around consuming the young to extend the old, so the clan stealing her newborn and leaving her to die reframes the carnage as a generational argument: one bloodline that eats its future feeding on a mother who couldn't keep hers out of the machine. That she fails where Ladya survives is the film's bleakest move.

The bait-and-switch opening, gentle Indonesian relationship drama before the slaughter, reads as the Mo Brothers indicting the polite-victim instinct itself. Every act of courtesy the travelers extend to a stranger is what gets them chained in the basement, making the film a brutal lesson in how hospitality and decency become the predator's favorite tools.

A carful of friends bound for the airport stops for a stranded young woman, Maya, who claims she was robbed and needs a ride home. Home turns out to be the lair of Dara, an ageless matriarch who feeds her family's hunger for immortality with whatever flesh wanders in. What opens like a polite Indonesian road-trip drama detonates into a single-location siege of bone saws, machetes, and arterial geysers. Ladya emerges as the final girl clawing her way out, while her brother's pregnant wife, Astrid, fights to keep her unborn child from a clan that has been doing this for a very long time. The Mo Brothers do not flinch, and neither does Dara.
