• Nang Nak was the first Thai film ever to break the 100-million-baht mark at the domestic box office, going on to earn roughly 150 million baht in an era when a cinema ticket cost about 100 baht — out-grossing Titanic in Thailand and standing as the highest-grossing Thai film of its time.
• The screenplay was written by Wisit Sasanatieng, who broke into the industry writing for director Nonzee Nimibutr and went on to become a celebrated director himself with Tears of the Black Tiger.

He's chosen the ghost over the truth, and the film's tragedy is that the community won't let him keep that choice. The horror isn't the dead wife. It's being forced to acknowledge her.

The film is a war story wearing ghost drag. Mak returns from the Siamese-Vietnamese conflict to find his home already haunted by the version of himself that left. Nak died waiting. Pregnant Nak waits for husband Mak to return from the Siamese-Vietnamese war. He comes home to his wife and newborn son, settling into domestic life in their riverside village. Everything seems idyllic. But neighbors keep trying to warn him something is wrong, and one by one, those who get too close to the truth end up dead. The film weaponizes tenderness: Mak's refusal to see what's rotting in front of him becomes its own kind of horror. By the time he reaches the temple exorcism, the real question isn't whether Nak is dead. It's whether he ever wanted to know.
