PLOT
- Production budget landed around $50 million. The film went on to gross roughly $182 million worldwide, becoming Eggers' highest-grossing film to date — outperforming The Witch, The Lighthouse, and the pricier The Northman.
- Lily-Rose Depp replaced Anya Taylor-Joy as Ellen Hutter after Taylor-Joy had to drop out of the role due to a scheduling conflict; Skarsgård and Depp were cast in the leads in September 2022.
- Bill Skarsgård trained for weeks with Icelandic opera singer Asgerdur Juniusdottir to drop his speaking voice an octave for Orlok, then used Mongolian throat-singing exercises between takes to keep the register active.
- Production designer Craig Lathrop built roughly 60 practical sets for the fictional town of Wisborg at Barrandov Studios in Prague, but Orlok's castle exteriors were shot on location at Romania's Corvin (Hunedoara) Castle and the Czech Republic's Pernstejn Castle rather than constructed from scratch.
- Willem Dafoe's Professor Albin Eberhart Von Franz was written as Eggers' reimagining of Van Helsing — older, more occult-obsessed, and less conventionally competent than prior screen versions.
- The film earned $40.8 million in its extended Christmas Day debut (a $21.6 million traditional weekend) — the biggest opening in Focus Features' history.
