PLOT
- Pin was adapted by director Sandor Stern from Andrew Neiderman's 1981 novel of the same name; Stern had previously written the screenplay for The Amityville Horror (1979), giving him credential in the domestic horror space.
- The film was shot on location in Montreal, Quebec, in 1987, a common practice for Canadian genre productions of the era.
- Pin's title dummy was a custom-built prop, not a repurposed real medical teaching model — the 'Pin' design credit went to the effects house Atelier P&P.
- New World Pictures had planned a theatrical release for Pin, but after a negative test screening the company shelved that plan and issued it direct-to-video in the U.S. instead (VHS release May 28, 1989); by that point New World was no longer Roger Corman's company — he had sold it back in 1983.
- Pin was largely overlooked on release and only built its cult reputation after 1991 revival screenings in Manhattan and San Francisco got critics reassessing it as an underappreciated gem.
- Pin predates the more widely known 'creepy ventriloquist dummy' horror touchstone Dead Silence (2007) by nearly two decades, though it remains far less commercially recognized.
