Siccin

• Siccin performed strongly at the Turkish box office and spawned five sequels between 2015 and 2019 (Siccin 2 through 6), with the franchise still releasing new entries as of the 2020s (Siccin 8 hit theaters in 2025).
• The title is a variant spelling of "Sijjin," a Qur'anic term (Surah Al-Mutaffifin, 83:7-9) referring to the register recording the deeds of the wicked, said to be located in the lowest depths of hell — it names a book/prison, not a type of djinn.
• Rather than starting a trend, Siccin rode an existing wave of Islamic-themed Turkish supernatural horror that began with "Buyu" (The Spell) in 2004 and was popularized by Hasan Karacadag's long-running "Dabbe" series, launched in 2006.
• Ebru Kaymakci plays Oznur, whose obsession with her cousin Kudret (Koray Sahinbas) sets the curse in motion; Pinar Caglar Gencturk plays his wife Nisa, the curse's intended target.
• The Siccin franchise was produced by Muhtesem Tozum under his Muhtesem Film banner, and has become one of the most commercially durable horror series in Turkish cinema.

The hoca (occult practitioner) never summoned anything external. The jinn manifestations are Oznur's fractured psyche externalizing her guilt, making the entire haunting a psychological collapse staged as possession. The child seeing things first supports inherited trauma over literal supernatural invasion.

The curse's 'failure' is deliberate. The jinn don't turn on Oznur because she botched the ritual — they fulfill it exactly. Destroying the rival wife was always going to require destroying the family structure around her, and Oznur simply didn't read the fine print.

Kudret's passivity throughout is the actual horror. Every supernatural escalation maps onto a moment where a flesh-and-blood man refused to act — dismissed a warning, ignored a wound, left a woman unprotected. The jinn are just what male indifference looks like when a house is already haunted.

Öznur has carried an obsessive, unrequited love for her cousin Kudret since childhood — and when he marries a woman named Nisa instead, something in her snaps. A visit to a hoca (occult practitioner) buys her a curse meant to destroy her rival. But the jinn invoked doesn't stay contained: it turns on Nisa's entire blood family, rotting the household from within — illness, hallucination, a child's corruption. Mestçi frames supernatural horror as the inevitable invoice for wanting something badly enough to ask the wrong entities to intervene. The film's grimmest punchline: the real monster was already in the house.
