Tahkhana

• Directed by brothers Shyam Ramsay and Tulsi Ramsay and produced by Gangu Ramsay — like most of the studio's horror output, a fully family-run production among the seven Ramsay brothers.
• The monster was played by Shamsuddin, an actor who stood roughly seven feet tall in real life; his natural size plus heavy creature makeup gave the near-wordless "ancient corpse" a genuinely imposing screen presence.
• Hemant Birje — who had debuted the year before as the title hero of Babbar Subhash's Adventures of Tarzan (1985) — plays the supporting role of Heera in Tahkhana; the film's central boyfriend role, Vijay, went to Kamran Rizvi.
• Filming took place across several real Mumbai facilities, including Chandivali Studio, Essel Studios, Kamalistan Studios in Andheri, and Film City in Goregaon, with additional work at Hotel Anarkali in the hill town of Mahabaleshwar.
• The film has had a long afterlife on physical media: genre label Mondo Macabro released it on DVD paired with the 1993 Ramsay film Mahakaal as a double feature, then reissued it on Blu-ray in 2023 as part of its Bollywood Horror Collection box set.

The chained entity waiting in the dungeon reads less like a monster of convenience and more like inherited sin made physical. Dhurjan's black-magic ritual doesn't just fail — it gets sealed underground with the fortune itself, so anyone greedy enough to go digging for one has to wake the other.

Sapna and Aarti's separation as infants — one lost, one recovered, both eventually needed to complete the locket that unlocks the treasure — plays like the film's real fixation: two halves of a family that can't be made whole again without also reopening the wound, and the dungeon, that split them apart.

Aarti and Vijay's treasure hunt, twenty years removed from Dhurjan's failed ritual, reads as the film restaging the original sin with a new generation — the same greed for the same buried fortune, walking back into the same trap, because nobody in the family ever told the kids what's actually buried down there.

Black-magic-practicing Dhurjan is disowned by his dying father in favor of his brother Raghuvir — so he abducts Raghuvir's two infant daughters, Sapna and Aarti, and tries to resurrect a demon god through sacrifice. He's captured and sealed in a dungeon alongside both the demon and a hidden fortune; only Aarti is recovered, and the dying Raghuvir tells his men the treasure's location is split across two halves of a locket, one worn by each sister. Twenty years later, grown Aarti and her boyfriend Vijay reunite the locket pieces and lead a group back to the family haveli to dig up the fortune, not realizing they're about to wake whatever the Ramsays left chained in the dark. Bollywood dungeon horror at its most unhinged — black magic, betrayal from within the group, and a towering, near-wordless creature (played by seven-foot actor Shamsuddin) that made this one of the era's most-remembered VHS-shelf monsters.
