PLOT
- The five segments were pulled from three different EC Comics titles, not just one: "And All Through the House" came from Vault of Horror #35, "Reflection of Death" and "Blind Alleys" came from Tales from the Crypt, and both "Poetic Justice" and "Wish You Were Here" came from The Haunt of Fear.
- Joan Collins starred in the Christmas segment "...And All Through the House," which HBO remade almost beat-for-beat for its 1989 Tales from the Crypt series, directed by Robert Zemeckis — but it ran as the second episode of the three-episode launch night, not the pilot (that honor went to "The Man Who Was Death," directed by Walter Hill).
- Sir Ralph Richardson played the hooded Crypt Keeper. The makeup was the work of Roy Ashton, the veteran Hammer effects artist famous for designing many of that studio's classic monsters — he also created Peter Cushing's ghoulish zombie look for the "Poetic Justice" segment in this same film.
- Amicus Productions, run by producers Milton Subotsky and Max Rosenberg, built the film around five short stories at a time when rival Hammer Films dominated British horror with feature-length gothic tales, making the anthology format a deliberate structural gamble.
- The BBFC classified the film X (adults-only) on its 1972 release and required cuts, including trimming a shot of a still-beating heart at the end of "Poetic Justice."
- In "Blind Alleys," Nigel Patrick's cruel Major Rogers doesn't die to rats — the blind residents he'd been starving lock him in a pitch-black, razor-lined basement maze and turn his own starved guard dog loose on him.
