Peña's fixation on Álex isn't just procedural instinct — the film reveals his wife Ruth died in a hit-and-run years earlier, one caused by Álex and Mayka themselves. His interrogation isn't cold detective work. It's payback dressed up as procedure, whether he admits that to himself or not.

Mayka's body never actually leaves the morgue. The entire missing-corpse narrative is Álex's fabrication, a story he constructs in real time under interrogation — and the film's shifting timelines reflect not unreliable memory but active myth-making, a guilty man writing his own alibi as the audience watches.

The film's rain-soaked nocturnal structure isn't just mood — it's a death rite. The entire night functions as Mayka's wake, with every character performing a role in a grief ritual that none of them consciously recognize. Dawn breaks only when the ritual completes.
