The huntsman who wins the riddle contest and transforms beside Rosaleen in the dream is a premonition of the wolves that breach her room: the film collapses the distinction between the imagined threat and the real one, suggesting the predators were never outside the dream but already inside it.

Rosaleen dreams herself into a fairytale forest where Grandmother tells stories of wolves, werewolves, and men whose eyebrows meet in the middle.
