The Feast

• The film was shot in just 18 days on a microbudget, almost entirely inside one modernist house in rural Wales: Life House, designed by architect John Pawson, in Llanbister.
• Performed entirely in Welsh, the film had its world premiere in SXSW's Midnighters section in March 2021 — months before its UK theatrical release in June 2022.
• The story draws on Welsh mythology from The Mabinogion: Cadi echoes Blodeuwedd, the woman conjured from flowers who is ultimately turned into an owl.
• IFC Midnight acquired North American rights in April 2021 and released the film in US theaters, digital, and VOD that November 19 — ahead of its UK release the following year.
• Director Lee Haven Jones wanted Annes Elwy for Cadi from the start and pitched her the role in person at a BAFTA Cymru ceremony; Elwy has said playing a character who barely speaks freed her from needing to be "funny, impressive, or clever."

Cadi isn't a person at all but an embodiment of the land itself, sent to punish the family for their exploitation of the Welsh countryside. Her vomiting of soil and her final transformation into an owl-like figure suggest she is Blodeuwedd reimagined.

The dinner party operates as a twisted Eucharist: each course represents a sin the guests have committed, and Cadi forces them to consume themselves literally and metaphorically. The meal isn't food, it's confession.

The film reads less as a colonialism story and more as a reckoning with home-grown greed: the family aren't outside invaders, they're Welsh landowners who chose mineral profit over the pastoral tradition their own inherited estate represents. Cadi's harshest punishment lands on Glenda, the one with the deepest ties to that land, because betrayal from within cuts deeper than exploitation from outside.

A wealthy family gathers at their glass-walled rural estate for a dinner party meant to secure a mineral-drilling deal with a neighboring farmer. The help is short-staffed, so a quiet young woman named Cadi arrives to serve. She doesn't say much. She doesn't need to. As courses are prepared and secrets surface, the guests reveal themselves as parasites feeding on land, flesh, and each other. Cadi listens, watches, and waits, because she wasn't hired to pour wine. She came to make them eat what they've done.
