PLOT
  • The film's original export title drops the "T" from Alfred Hitchcock's surname — "Hichcock" instead of "Hitchcock" — evoking the Master of Suspense while dodging a possible lawsuit.
  • Screenwriter Ernesto Gastaldi wrote the entire script solo, credited under the anglicized pseudonym "Julyan Perry." Director Riccardo Freda did the same, billed as "Robert Hampton" on export prints — a common move for Italian genre productions marketing to English-speaking audiences.
  • Made on a lean 96-million-lire budget and shot in about two to three weeks at a rented villa outside Rome, not at Cinecittà as sometimes claimed.
  • Barbara Steele took 10 days off from Federico Fellini's 8½ to play Hichcock's new bride, Cynthia.
  • Italy's censors hit it with the country's first V.M.18 rating under the new 1962 ratings system but didn't order a single cut. The U.S. wasn't as kind — Sigma III re-dubbed it, hacked it down to 76 minutes, and released it in 1964 as "The Horrible Dr. Hitchcock" (with the T restored).
