The killer stalking the sisters is dressed in Mrs. Slater's own caftan and wields her cane, deliberately blurring the line between "the woman they killed, back for revenge" and something else for most of the runtime. The reveal -- that it's her hidden, deformed son Eric, who watched her die from the attic -- reframes the film as a story about a second, older cover-up colliding with the sisters' new one, rather than supernatural payback.

The film's structure mirrors a Greek chorus in miniature: the sisters who argue most forcefully for hiding the body tend to die first and most brutally, while the more reluctant ones survive longer. Whether by design or just slasher-formula pacing, the moral hierarchy of the cover-up maps closely onto the kill order.

The recurring shots of the murky, debris-filled swimming pool function as the film's symbolic conscience -- the thing the sisters literally cannot look at but cannot escape. The pool becomes a character, a burial ground, and ultimately the site where the truth refuses to stay submerged.

Seven sorority sisters hatch a graduation prank against their house mother, Mrs. Slater—a woman whose rigid cruelty has made their final year a living hell. The stunt involves a gun they think is loaded with blanks. It isn't.
