• Abel Salazar doesn't play the cursed pianist — he cast himself as Ricardo Souto, the reporter who stumbles into the story, while Enrique Rambal plays the doomed Samuel Magno.
• K. Gordon Murray's import operation brought the film to U.S. screens in 1965, six years after its Mexican release, dubbed and repackaged through Trans-International Films for the drive-in horror circuit.
• The film's low budget shows most in Samuel's monster transformations — reviewers have long singled out an obviously fake foam-rubber nose as the effect's weak point.
• Director Rafael Balédon built the horror around a real piece of music, Tchaikovsky's Piano Concerto No. 1 — it's specifically playing that piece, not just rage in general, that triggers Samuel's transformation.

Samuel's transformations aren't really about a literal devil's bargain — they're the externalized guilt of a man who murdered his rival, Alejandra, out of envy; every time he sits at the piano, the monster is his own conscience clawing back out.

Cornelia isn't just a bystander sheltering her son — she's the one who pushed him toward the bargain in the first place, sacrificing his humanity to live out her own thwarted ambitions for him as a prodigy.

Ricardo's interview isn't really about the story — his growing interest in Laura positions him, whether he realizes it or not, as the outsider who could break Samuel's hold over her and, with it, the curse itself.

Music reporter Ricardo Souto travels from Mexico City to the countryside to profile Samuel Magno, a once-celebrated pianist and conductor who vanished from public life. At Samuel's secluded house he meets Samuel's mother, Cornelia, and his protégée, Laura, who Samuel is training for a high-profile Tchaikovsky concert. What Ricardo doesn't know: consumed with envy of the world's top pianist, Samuel struck a bargain with the devil for genius-level talent — and got a curse instead. Every time he plays Tchaikovsky's Piano Concerto No. 1, he turns into a murderous beast. He's already killed that rival, a pianist named Alejandra, in one of his fits, and now he's racing to turn Laura into the best in the world, hoping it's the only way to break the curse before it claims somebody else.
