Then a stranger at a lecture mentions her mother, who died when Silvia was a child under circumstances the film never fully settles — a fall from a balcony, maybe a push, maybe suicide — and the architecture starts crumbling. Black-gloved hands reach from the dark. A little girl in white appears and disappears. Silvia's neighbors behave wrong. Her memories rot and reform. Barilli engineers a slow-motion crackup where the question of who's manipulating Silvia — ghosts, cultists, or her own splintering mind — is never resolved. The final frames deliver one of giallo's most punishing punchlines.
