PLOT
  • Presented as one unbroken take clocking in at roughly 79 minutes, shot on a Canon EOS 5D Mark II — but that camera could only record about 30 minutes at a stretch, so the "single take" was actually a magic trick built on hidden cuts, not a truly unbroken shot.
  • The film claims to be based on real events from a 1940s Uruguayan village, but nobody has ever been able to verify the case existed — treat it as folklore dressed up as true crime, not documented history.
  • Made for about $6,000 and shot in just four days, it premiered at the Cannes Film Festival's Directors' Fortnight in May 2010 and went on to actual theatrical runs in Argentina, Uruguay, and the UK.
  • Remade in English in 2011 as Silent House, starring Elizabeth Olsen — that version pulled the same trick, filming in 10-to-12-minute takes stitched together to fake one continuous shot.
  • Lead actress Florencia Colucci is on screen for nearly the entire runtime, and her solo-carry performance won her Best Actress and Best New Actress at the 2011 Uruguayan Association of Cinematographic Critics Awards.
