PLOT
- Shot on location in Toronto on a budget of roughly C$2.5 million, financed under Canada's Capital Cost Allowance tax-shelter program that bankrolled a wave of Canadian productions in the late '70s.
- After the film wrapped, producers pushed for a more graphic decapitation scene to be added. Director Daryl Duke refused and was removed from the production — screenwriter Curtis Hanson came back to shoot the pickups and finish post-production himself.
- Celine Lomez's character is killed with shards from Miles's home aquarium in a decapitation scene graphic enough to earn the film its R rating.
- John Candy has an early supporting role as Simonson, a fellow bank employee — one of his first film credits before he broke out in comedy.
- Curtis Hanson's screenplay was adapted from Anders Bodelsen's 1969 Danish novel 'Think of a Number' (Taenk paa et tal), relocating the story from Copenhagen to Toronto.
- Elliott Gould, who'd struck up a friendship with Alfred Hitchcock the year before, arranged a private screening of the finished film for him — Gould said he'd aimed to make a 'Hitchcockian story,' and Hitchcock reportedly liked it.
