The Uninvited Guest

Félix never had an intruder. The 'guest' is a dissociated projection of his suicidal impulse — a part of himself that moves through his own house freely because it already lives there. Every scene where the stranger seems to linger undetected is Félix rehearsing his own disappearance.

The film operates as an allegory for a marriage's collapse rather than crime. Félix processes the separation from Vera through the intruder, who absorbs the violence and guilt Félix cannot direct at himself. The guest is less a person than a container for shame.

The house itself is the real antagonist. Morales frames it as a system that produces madness in anyone isolated inside it long enough — the stranger is just the first visible symptom of a space that has already begun digesting Félix.

A recently separated architect named Félix holes up alone in his sprawling Barcelona house, jumpy around visitors since the split from his wife Vera. When a stranger asks to use his phone one night, Félix lets him in — then steps out of the room for a few minutes, and the man is gone, seemingly vanished somewhere inside the house. For days afterward Félix hears movement in empty rooms and calls the police, who search and find nothing, only deepening his conviction that the intruder never actually left. He calls Vera back to the house, and what starts as a fragile reconciliation curdles into paranoia — Félix becomes convinced she's talking to someone in the kitchen and, in a moment of panic, injures her with a knife. Morales builds the dread out of the simplest material: a man who can no longer tell what's really moving through his own home. By the time the film flips its perspective in the back half, you're not sure who the uninvited guest really was.
