• Anthony Wong won Best Actor at the 13th Hong Kong Film Awards for playing Wong Chi Hang — his first of three Best Actor wins in a career that later added Beast Cops (1998) and Still Human (2018).
• The film carries Hong Kong's Category III rating (18+, extreme violence/sexual content) and still grossed over HK$15.7 million during its May 13-June 2, 1993 theatrical run.
• The gore was built almost entirely with practical, in-camera effects and no CGI, giving the violence its raw, unpolished look on a limited budget.
• It's loosely based on the real Eight Immortals Restaurant murders in Macau on August 4, 1985: Huang Zhiheng killed ten members of the family who owned the restaurant over an unpaid gambling debt, and severed limbs washing up on a beach are what tipped off police.
• Co-star Danny Lee, who plays the lead investigator, also produced the film — a year earlier he had co-directed and starred in another notorious Category III shocker, Dr. Lamb (1992).

The cops' brutality toward Wong mirrors his own violence so precisely that the film reads as a critique of institutional sadism. The scene where officers beat Wong in custody isn't justice, it's a mirror, suggesting the only difference between them is a uniform.

The pork bun motif functions as dark commentary on consumer complicity. The customers who keep buying the buns, even commenting on their quality, represent a society that consumes violence as entertainment and never questions what's actually being served.

Wong's casual demeanor during the confession scenes suggests he understands something the cops don't: that horror is banal. His lack of remorse isn't sociopathy so much as a recognition that the universe doesn't care, making him the most honest character in the film.

Macau police catch a break when a bag of limbs washes ashore, but the break turns out to be a man named Wong Chi Hang who breaks people for sport. Anthony Wong plays the pork bun shop owner who murdered his boss's family, ground them into dim sum filling, and served the evidence to customers who kept coming back for seconds. Herman Yau frames the whole thing like a procedural that's been hijacked by a snuff film, and the cops investigating are almost as repulsive as the killer they're chasing. The real horror isn't what Wong did. It's that everyone ate it.
