TRIVIA
THEORIES
PLOT
- The production remains infamous for the July 23, 1982 helicopter crash at Indian Dunes that killed actor Vic Morrow and child actors Myca Dinh Le and Renee Shin-Yi Chen; director John Landis and four others stood trial for involuntary manslaughter and were acquitted in 1987.
- John Lithgow played the panicked airline passenger in George Miller's "Nightmare at 20,000 Feet" segment, stepping into the role William Shatner originated in the original 1963 TV episode.
- The crash ended the friendship between producers Steven Spielberg and John Landis — Spielberg stopped speaking to him afterward, and the two never worked together again.
- The tragedy pushed the industry toward tighter set safety: the Directors Guild began issuing regular safety bulletins, and the Screen Actors Guild set up a 24-hour hotline letting actors refuse unsafe work without penalty.
- Burgess Meredith, who had starred in four episodes of the original series, provided the film's uncredited opening and closing narration, stepping into Rod Serling's role.
