PLOT
  • Special makeup effects designer Bob Keen, fresh off Hellraiser, earned a Saturn Award nomination for Best Makeup on Waxwork — at director Anthony Hickox's request, he modeled the werewolf transformation after the one in The Howling.
  • David Warner, who plays the villainous David Lincoln, was already a genre veteran: he'd played "Evil" in Time Bandits (1981) and doomed photojournalist Keith Jennings in The Omen (1976).
  • Writer-director Anthony Hickox wrote the Waxwork screenplay in just three days for his feature directorial debut, building the museum as a monster-mash tribute to classic horror archetypes like Dracula, the Mummy, Frankenstein's monster, and the Invisible Man.
  • Jason Voorhees, the children from Village of the Damned, and The Thing were all originally planned as waxwork displays but got cut for legal/rights reasons; stuntman Kane Hodder ended up with an uncredited turn as Frankenstein's monster instead.
  • Deborah Foreman (Sarah) was dating Hickox during filming; after they broke up, she declined to reprise the role for Waxwork II: Lost in Time (1992).
